If You Only Read One Thing: The Five Reasons Girls Type Like Thisssssssss:
I spotted this on Gala Darling's weekly wrap-up -- It's The Cut's take how females write in order to communicate intonation (and hierarchical order):
Female "word elongation" is the topic of an Atlantic article and an academic study this week. "When people talk, they use intonation in a number of varied and subtle ways," a linguist told the Atlantic's Jen Doll. "There's a lot of emotional nuance that can be conveyed that you can’t do in writing." I have identified five types of keystroke repetition, and the emotionally nuanced variations therein.
Interesting. Do you think email/texts are a breeding ground for subtext and miscommunication?
Sex & Love
- Did you know that HUMAN SEXUALITY IS NATURALLY PROMISCUOUS AND PRIMARILY AMOROUS? Seems like a scientific basis for open relationships...and possibly threesomes. Just saying. Thank you to Preston Rhea for sending this article over. (via Ars Technica)
- Speaking of promiscuity, Nathan Savin Scott @ Thought Catalog says DON'T WRITE ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU HAVE LOVED. Thoughts on owning only part of what happens to you in relationships and what you can and should do with that experience as a writer. I've struggled with this, naturally, and have come up with a guiding rule: Details only when they advance the moral of the story. They have to enrich a character, scene, plot that is necessary to the point, otherwise, just fucking don't do it.
Thoughts?
Style, Creative, & Personal
- This is a hybrid love/creative piece! LEADING AROUND THE WORLD popped up a few days ago on imgur and has brought Russian photographer Murad Osmann and his girlfriend's thong-wearing ass internet fame. Heavily saturated, sometimes-fisheyed and occasionally scantily-clad international love at it's best.
- Forgive me for being offbeat but I love xoVain's FIRST EVER MAKE-UNDER of... ....Snooki. She looks like she's sitting for a Renaissance painter.
Coming up here this week: HOW TO DO NSA & a special dude guest post...
Video Love:
These two videos are short visual vacations. There isn't that much that's cuter than kids driving cars....or adults dancing in yack costumes. Something like that.
Heartless Bastards - Only for You (PS: I swear I'm done being obsessed with this song, for now).
